Universidad Católica de Ávila

The town's university welcomed us for 1 month as students took 2 classes each. Various levels were offered in relation to fluency and knowledge of Spanish. Classes included Conversational Spanish, Medical translation in Spanish, Business in Spanish, Spanish Literature, History and Culture of Spain, along with several beginning level language classes. The professors all spoke to us mainly in Spanish regardless of the class level. Our professors were extremely knowledgeable and worldly beyond the subjects they taught. They were very personal with us and we often went out with them to have coffee and talk. The professor and student boundaries in Spain were much less than at home. They were more like wise friends we were assigned to for a month rather than strict teachers. My school schedule was 9:00am-2:00pm Monday through Thursday and I took Advanced Conversation Spanish and Advanced History and Culture of Spain; Two classes I would have never taken here in the States, but that ultimately made me worldly and more whole.
